An Interactive Dance Performance
My artistic exploration of feedback began with the FeedGuitar, developed during my Master’s degree. In a later work, Environment Like Strings, I outlined a conceptual feedback loop between instrument, performer, and composer.
This idea evolved into the Feedback Ballet, a project combining the FeedGuitar with a relational object of my own design. Although promising, the project remained unfinished due to time constraints.
A new opportunity emerged through Perceptrum, the artistic duo I founded with Dora Motèque. Together, we developed the Sounding Canvas series: augmented paintings enhanced with sensors, sound, and computational behavior.
This work naturally evolved into a more immersive form: the Sounding Stage, where the canvas expands into a full scenographic environment that a dancer can inhabit and activate.
The Visible Breath of Frequency is the first performance created within this framework, premiered in April 2026 in Prato (Italy). The piece revolves around feedback as both a technical mechanism and a conceptual principle: the dancer generates sound through touch, and in turn moves within the sonic environment she creates, forming a continuous performative loop.
I developed the technological system and composed the music for the piece (listen here), bringing to life a vision that originated with the earlier Feedback Ballet. This realization was made possible thanks to the collaboration with Dora Motèque and the extraordinary dancer Anna Manes.
The music of this work carries a deeply personal dimension. It is built from musical fragments collected during a difficult period of my life, following events that took place in Iran in 2018 (context). While time has passed, those experiences remain embedded in the emotional fabric of the piece.
